After the Wave
A surfer girl’s ritual for slowing down and reconnecting.
I believe that for girls who love surfing, post-surf care is almost part of the ritual itself.
After a long session in the ocean, we naturally pay more attention to our bodies — not just because we want softer skin or a healthier body, but because surfing takes a lot from us too.
Energy.
Focus.
Emotion.
The ocean gives us freedom, but it also leaves traces on the body.
That’s why surf aftercare is not only physical.
It’s emotional too.
It’s about slowing down after the waves and letting yourself recover fully.
1. Rinse away the ocean slowly
The first step after surfing is simple: wash the ocean off your skin.
Salt water staying on the body for too long can dry out your skin and leave it feeling tight or irritated. After hours in the sun and sea, your body needs softness again.
Take a warm shower slowly.
Let the water run over your shoulders, your arms, your skin.
Don’t rush it.
A good post-surf routine isn’t only about cleaning your body — it’s also about calming your mind after hours of movement and stimulation.
Sometimes slowing down starts with something this simple.
2. Your skin needs softness after salt and sun
Surfing means long hours in salt water, strong sunlight, and ocean wind.
Your skin feels everything.
That’s why skincare becomes part of recovery too.
After showering, take a few extra minutes to care for your skin gently.
Maybe it’s body lotion.
Maybe it’s natural oils.
Maybe it’s simply taking your time instead of rushing through it.
The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s comfort.
Post-surf skincare is really about helping your body feel nourished again after giving so much energy away.
3. Recovery is part of surfing
Surfing looks free and effortless from the outside.
But your body works hard in the water.
After a long surf session, muscle tension and soreness are completely normal. If you don’t allow your body to recover properly, fatigue can slowly build up and affect your daily life, sleep, and energy.
That’s why recovery is part of surfing too.
Stretch your body slowly.
Relax your shoulders and lower back.
Use a cold compress if certain areas feel overworked.
And most importantly — rest.
Good sleep is one of the most important forms of self-care after surfing.
Your body heals while you slow down.
4. The quiet after the waves matters too
One of my favorite parts of surfing is not always the surfing itself.
Sometimes it’s the moment after.
Wet hair.
Warm skin.
The sunset beginning to fade.
Sitting quietly and feeling your body slowly return to itself.
No notifications.
No pressure.
No noise except the ocean still echoing in your mind.
That quiet feeling is part of the reason I fell in love with surfing in the first place.
It reminds me to come back to myself.
5. Create your own aftercare ritual
Maybe self-care doesn’t have to be complicated.
Maybe it can simply be a few intentional moments after a long day in the ocean.
A slower shower.
A softer room.
A quiet evening.
A moment where your attention belongs only to you again.
Fluxette Wave 1.0 was inspired by this feeling.
That calm moment after the waves — when your body relaxes, your breathing slows down, and you finally reconnect with yourself again.
Not performance.
Not pressure.
Just flow.
